I agree with Tenko, AlkseeyaKC, and Hitomi-no-Tsubasa.

Dubbed all the way.

I kind of despise dubbed anime >.< But then, I know enough Japanese to follow the story without reading the subs very much, so that could be why. I just find that the translations are sometimes really badly done, and some jokes and such just doesn't make sense when translated. To be fair, sometimes the dubs have new jokes that wouldn't work in Japanese (specifically remember in Death Note, with jokes on the name Light) but it just doesn't do it for me. It feels wrong somehow to see anime character speak in English >.< That's just my personal opinion though.
I may be on the side of the angels...
But don't think for one second that I am one of them.

So basically what you're saying is that Anime shouldn't be dubbed at all? Subs can't be trusted with translation as well. Also, some people might not want to hear a high pitched 30-year old woman or a deep voiced 12 year old. That's what annoys me mostin most Subs. I can't stand the voices.

What about American cartoons being dubbed in Japanese? Have you SEEN the Japanese version of Avatar: The Last Airbender? The Japanese version of Legend of Korra? They're terrible.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't do it, since it's clear that there are people who like it, only that I can't stand watching it. Like I stated in my post, that's just my personal opinion. I am well aware that subs are not always accurate either, fact is I've had a great many laughs at some really strange translations over the years, but as I also said, I don't really use the subs much. As for the voices, I usually find that they choose the voice actor to match the character, and usually make very good choices, but that is also just my personal opinion. When they change the pitch or way of speak in the dubs, it usually change how the character come across to the viewer.

As for American cartoons, my opinion is the same. I haven't watched the Japanese version of Avatar, and I do not want to. I have however watched some of the American cartoons in Swedish, since my little sister watch some of them, and I get annoyed every time. It doesn't matter to me what language it is, if I can't watch it in the original language, then I don't really want to watch it at all.

Once again, this is all just my personal opinion. I know there are a lot of opinions out there and I don't mean to offend any of them, just stating mine.
(Also, if something in this post doesn't make sense, please forgive me as it's 4am here right now >.<)

I definitely prefer subbed. I can't bear to watch dubbed anime or movies without cringing. But the same goes for things made in English. It's so weird to here dubs done on English shows or movies. XD I think the original voices just tend to be the best.

Subbed, definitely. Dubbed animes usually have completely different words, tones, etc. And the voices always sound so weird! Plus sometimes the plot is censored, or westernized. I like reading more anyway.

I prefer dubbed. Japanese is my second language. I don't like subbed. Unless you're a faster reader, its hard to follow along. Not to mention the issue of reading and watching whats going on at the same time. You can't do both at the same time unless you're a lizard of some kind. So I say dubbed.

For me it all depends on the voice actors, sometimes they do a great job, and sometimes it sounds like they don't even try. :mcgloom:

Ex.
* I like Cowboy Bebop dubbed
* I can only watch Slayers subbed
