@Moon Star you got it almost right.
In Sodome and Gomorrhe travellers were not welcomed and charity was not given to the poor, they had bad customs. In retaliation God destroyed them. In the original text there is no reference to homosexuality.
From what I read in an article the only thing they have against homosexuality is in fact against the one being passive because it should only a woman's behaviour. Bloody misogynists ! Passive and obedient my *** ! :qs: ... Sorry.

Allowing cousins to marry was of political use at some point since all the Nobles in all the European countries where cousins. And to keep the lines "pure" as well as making profit with the weddings they had to be able to marry even in the same family.

And I agree people shouldn't expect you to tell them you sexual orientation when you first meet. One, it doesn't concern them, second it discrimination. You don't expect people with AIDS or other illnesses to warn people when they meet !

Darn-it! Almost right! XD
And yeah, my memory isn't that great in relations to this, since I actually learned about it at the beginning of last year (school year) and we we're taught a bunch more stuff afterwards... >.>
Plus, the teacher (morale, so not really religion per-say) didn't really stay on one topic too long, he skimmed over all the important stories and such, and we didn't read the bible or anything.

And really? The problem is being passive and obedient? Then I was right when I said that if I lived in the past, I'd be the first one to be burned at the stake or treated as a heretic. XD

And yeah, misogynists really suck. If I ever met one, I'd kick him in the family jewels, show him who's passive and obedient.... *Mutters*

But yeah, families of nobles actually did marry between themselves, to keep the bloodline pure, yeah, but their blood didn't get enough diversity and the closeness caused so many problems for the children... >.> I don't even know why I'm talking about this, but yeah, I never heard of the part about the travelers and such.

And since I was curious, I read about the Sodome and Gomorrhe thing on the internet, specifying for children, and seriously, it worried me! Children who hear about this would be brainwashed! >.<

It is way too easy to use religious texts and make them say what we want. And using them on young minds is even worse because they cannot question what they hear.
And I'm sure the men who wrote those texts had an inferiority complex towards women and that's why they treat them so badly. And try to make them behave like inferior beings.

@Moon Star the children where related to the in-family weddings. But those religious "laws" just show how powerful people bended the religion to their own customs. There is too much done this way in the Catholics beliefs for it to have my respect. What is now considered as part of "God's opinions" where interpretations added later and to suit the ones in power's fancy. Remember that during Middle Age the Church was directed by Noblemen's 3rd sons who where placed there to hold power, not because they were religious. Catholicism, seing the historical context, is more of a mass control tool than anything spiritual as a religion should be. Islam the same in my opinion.

Wait, people got mad at you because you didn't tell them your sexual orientation when you first met??? The hell? That's just plain weird, and slightly obsessive. That'd be like the government obligating people to say that they're into BDSM or necrophilia when first meeting someone..... Demanding much? (And weird. Definitely weird.) It's not like your sexual orientation makes you a spawn of Satan or something. It doesn't change who you are either.
And if someone actually told you that you have to tell others that you're a lesbian, then they might need to see a psychiatrist. Seriously, they need help.

You don't see people going around saying "Hi, my name is Sally and I'm heterosexual", so why should LGBT people have to? It's a silly idea coming from silly people.

RIGHT?! I have had quite a few people yell at me for it. D< People are just crazy, it's like, they need to know so they know whether or not to talk to you? They will be alright with me and we'll be getting along fine until they find out about my girlfriend and suddenly they're a total jerk face. OH. AND APPARENTLY I AM SATAN OR THE DAUGHTER/SON OF SATAN BECAUSE I LIKE TO WEAR BLACK, AM NOT GOTH AND HAVE A GIRLFRIEND?!
Some people just make me lose hope on humanity. @_@;;

Yes, yes that is the case. Religion just has way too many taboos that in the first place, everyone breaks. Homosexuality is forbidden, because the Church decided to follow that line. But if a child were to curse at his parents, he is to be killed, but you don't see that happening, now do you? It's actually blasphemy and heretical to choose to follow some of the doctrines and not all of them, so basically, none of those Protestors (or Priests or Cardinals or even the Pope!) should be allowed to fuss. They're already hated by God. XD

Is there anything that isn't a taboo? O__O
Next time someone tells me to switch to Christianity, I'll just be like, no thanks. I like Buddhist, after all, everything isn't a taboo.

I'm sure you'll better of that way ^^

After all -but maybe I'm wrong- Buddhism is not about blindly following rules like Christianism is, you are allowed to think for yourself.

There really isn't that many rules, none that doesn't make any sense of course. There are things like, you should appreciate live because no matter how large or small, a life is a life. It isn't a rule though to my knowledge, but I do agree and follow it. I end up telling people about it a lot too, but only cause people seem to think that because they don't speak, animals don't have feelings or souls, which really bother me. I also hate it when people are rude to people that don't speak English and yell at them to learn it because they're "in America" WHICH IS DUMB CAUSE THE STATES ARE SUPPOSED TO BE A HUGE MELTING POT.
Which means tons of other languages.
I just can't stand it when people are rude. A life is a life and every life should be treated equally. Plus, treat others the way you want to be treated. Wasn't everyone taught that in elementary school?

Well I was taught that in school too, and your liberty stops where other people's start. And well pretty much basic Human Rights since I'm French.

But it seems "believers" think it's only for people with the same ideals as theirs. With Rights come Duties, but they don't want to remember that. Respect should come before following a religion in my opinion.
But "God" won't make you a new world just because you messed this one up and killed all that you didn't deem important - witch for some is anything that isn't human.

I'd lost hope in humanity a long time ago. XD

Lol, you like to wear black too? That's almost the only color I wear usually. Maybe because I don't like bright colors very much.... >.>

But you're the son/daughter of Satan because you wear black and have a girlfriend? I'm really curious about the people who tell you that. I would love to try and talk to them, see how fucked up they are! XD

Personally, if someone I knew told me they were gay, I think I'd start singing the "If you were gay" song, because it would be so funny! XD Hopefully they wouldn't think it was insulting... >.>
But yeah, whoever changes their opinion because of something like that just needs a life.

I have a feeling that everything is a taboo in Christianity! XD
I prefer being an atheist. I can do what I want and not have to answer to anyone... >.>
And I don't know anything about Buddhism, so I wouldn't know if it's good, bad, or anything.

I wonder why they seem to forget it then...

Hmm....I figured that everyone has their own opinions, I just wish they wouldn't push it onto others and claim that you will go to hell if you don't believe in them.

I can't stand bright colors and I hate standing out so I wear black since a lot of people seem to wear black, though I used to always wear a hoodie;; People seem to think that I don't like colors but I do, I just like wearing black. ): It's not a sin.

SERIOUSLY. They usually call me that even before I started getting a girlfriend though. Maybe cause I'm super pale and have long canines or something. Who even knows. I don't really like talking to people like that, plus they always end up running away or something.

Lol, I love that song. It shows that it doesn't matter if you were gay at all because you are still the same person as you were before. Plus, I don't wanna know about my friend's sexual lives anyways xD

Makes sense. I guess in a way, that's why I'm Buddhist. I have a lot of same or similar beliefs and I believe in reincarnation. :3

Actually. In my eyes, Satan and the Devil are really nice people. Think about it. They punish the bad people and keep them and the demons all in hell. He's a really nice person to keep them all under control and not just release them all onto the world because they would be much easier for him.

Well, actually as I see it Satan is just like the Boogieman. Why -the Hell if you allow me the expression- would he want to punish 'evil' people??? Wouldn't that be counter productive?

And, what is bad for Christians? 7 mortal sins : enjoying sex (luxury), good food (gluttony), relaxing (sloth), throwing temper tantrums occasionally (wrath), striving to better one's situation (greed), being proud of oneself (pride) and well a little Envy has never killed anyone.

And as the Irish say, we'll all meet in Hell to share a good pint.

And who are the "good Christians"? Conquistadores, Inquisitors, priests with too much love for children, Crusaders... Such a bunch of lovely people :qcute:

Yep, I'll try my luck in Hell ! Reincarnation as a cat would be nice too.

Anyway I'm evil since I'm left-handed ! XD

I swear those people trying to convert you to "save your soul" only do it to buy they place in Paradise. And really, I'm sure those people are not worth knowing if they react this way.

I don't really know anything about the Boogieman.

-has all 7 sins- >.>;

My my....

Actually, that reminds me that I work for the devil, because I was born left handed. >.>

Oh geez, that's right. Churches are so filthy rich that it's insane and upsetting. ):
